Scoring well in exams is one of the most important goals that every student wishes to achieve throughout their school, college, and other educational stages. School is where competitiveness begins in a student’s life since achieving academic excellence is equally important for everyone to build a strong career in the future.

Every grade in school is uniquely significant as they involve a variety of new concepts and topics, different from what has been taught in the previous classes. Class 7 involves learning more details about basic concepts that have been introduced to students in class 6.

Science is one of the main subjects taught in class 7 that requires a strong and well-built base for future studies. Since it is newly introduced to most students in the previous grade with its 3 branches, namely, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, students are still new to most topics.

Some simple and important tips that can help students understand, study, and score well in class 7 science include:

    • Check your syllabus
It is important to know your syllabus well enough before you start preparing for your exams. CBSE often removes or adds certain topics from the syllabus. Hence, it will be helpful for you to keep a check on the final syllabus.
    • Check the chapter-wise weightage
Knowing the weightage of each chapter will help you prioritize the topics on which you need to focus more. Topics or chapters that have higher weightage should be practiced more by the students since long questions worth higher marks can be asked from these chapters.
    • Find a peaceful place
Having a designated area to sit and study, which is comfortable as well as peaceful for you to be able to concentrate well while you are studying is important. Your study area should be free of distractions like televisions or phones.
    • Practice is the key
Practising is the best way to achieve proficiency in any subject, especially maths and science. There are many formulae, procedures, terms, and definitions to learn in all three branches of science. Understanding these well to be able to apply them while solving questions is important and can only be possible through regular practice.
    • Make a timetable
Preparing a timetable with proper distribution of study hours for each subject can help with effective time management as well as covering the syllabus with enough spare time to revise the difficult or important topics and practice from other resources like sample papers and previous year’s question papers.
    • Study from NCERT
During internal exams, question papers are strictly designed based on the NCERT books students are taught from. Covering the NCERT book properly will help you gain the highest marks possible in comparison to any other resource book. You can refer to other books after you complete studying from the NCERT.
    • Develop a proper understanding of the basics
It is crucial to have a strong base in the branches of science since it will help you understand the complex concepts that will come up in the future. Hence, go through the basic concepts well enough to get a proper understanding.
    • Do not ignore topics
Often, students leave out chapters or topics that have low weightage in the exams. This can lead to losing marks in case questions are framed from those particular chapters. Hence, study every chapter and every topic in the syllabus to score well.
    • Resolve any doubts and queries
While studying, students often face certain queries and doubts which may lead to stress. Thus, is it important to clear these doubts and get an in-depth understanding from subject experts like your teachers, parents, or friends.
    • Tricks and techniques
Students can develop their own methods or tricks to learn particular things as it makes learning fun and easy to remember.
    • Attempt the questions at the end
NCERT books are considered the best resource since they provide in-depth information as well as revision questions at the end of every chapter. Try to solve these questions as it would help you revise what you just studied about and memorize the information well.
    • Solve sample papers
Post completion of your syllabus, you can practice by solving sample papers and get to know your weak spots so that you can practice them more and improve before you appear for the exam.
      • Avoid last-minute preparation
Scoring good marks in any subject is not possible if you are waiting for the last moment to study before your exam. Even if you go through the entire syllabus just a week before the exam, the information you learned will remain in your short-term memory which has very high chances of being forgotten during your exam.
    • Avoid pre-exam discussions
Students should try not to indulge in any discussions with peers right before the exam since it can cause confusion and stress, affecting their performance during the exam. Avoid learning any new topics as it may be difficult for you to recall during the exam and waste your time.
    • Take breaks between long study hours
Studying for more than 2 to 3 hours consecutively can cause mental as well as physical exhaustion. This can further lead to an incomplete understanding and improper learning. Hence, taking regular breaks after studying will help refresh your mind and body and you will be able to focus better.
    • Take care of your health
Often students continue to study for long hours and do not keep a check on their health. Having a balanced diet, getting proper sleep, and physical activity can help reduce stress as well as maintain your health.

    Conclusion

It is very well known that “practice makes a man perfect”. The sooner you adopt practising regularly as a part of your preparation for any exam, the better performance can be achieved in the exams. These tips can help students achieve higher marks throughout their educational span.
