Have you glimpsed at all the hues of green there could perhaps be across the globe? Think again! Unless you have travelled to God’s Own Country, be prepared to get dazzled by the dense green beauty, like I did when I went on a trip to Kerala with my girl gang. To present you with a better overview, here are some of the places we visited on our Kerala trip.
Kochi
Being a major city in Kerala, we decided to begin our trip from Kochi. This city, snuggled amidst picturesque hills and mountains, held numerous tourist spots that we explored via booking car rentals in Kochi with a local, experienced driver. Marine Drive was our favourite attraction in Kochi, where we enjoyed a boat ride, witnessed the panoramic skyline and relished some evening snacks along the path.
Trivandrum
Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala, is famous for its stunning art galleries, zoo and the famous Kovalam beach. As in any other capital city of India, we found a lot of shops, tourists, and restaurants and all the hustle and bustle of a city premises. After visiting the famous Trivandrum art gallery and witnessing some beautiful artefacts, we decided to visit the famous Kovalam beach for a glimpse of the setting sun and spend a peaceful time on the beachside.
Munnar
Situated at an altitude of 1,600 metres above sea level, Munnar is among the most popular hill stations in Kerala. It became the next stop of our trip. After reaching this place, we were fascinated at the lush green tea plantations everywhere, making this place a paradise.
I would recommend every traveller to book a taxi from Kochi to Munnar and enjoy a scenic roadtrip, watch the mesmerising vistas en route. Apart from viewing the beautiful tea plantations, we visited the captivating Rose Garden, where we witnessed hundreds of rose varieties.
Alleppey
Alleppey, also known as Alappuzha, is well-known for its beautiful houseboats. We booked a houseboat with three bedrooms and a dining area for an overnight stay and went sailing through the serene Kerala backwaters to enjoy the stunning sunset at the boat deck.
Fun activities in Kerala
Here are some of the fun activities we undertook on our Kerala trip.
-
Surfing
Surfing was the first adventure sport we all tried during our visit to the Kovalam beach in Kochi. With cold water splashes refreshing us from within, this was one of the best surfing experiences we will remember for a lifetime.
-
Trekking
Trekking on the stunning tracks of Munnar was another fun-filled activity that I tried with my girl gang. There are numerous treks in Munnar. We decided to opt for the well-known Meesapulimala trekking as it is usually a safer trek for women trekkers. This trekking trail begins from a jeep trail to the bottom of a cliff, followed by a 30-minute mount up the first hill.
Where to stay in Kerala?
While there are a host of luxury resorts, hotels and colonial estates to choose from, we decided to stay in an eco-beach resort in Kochi and a houseboat in Alleppey. When we reached Munnar, we tried out a home stay facility in Kerala, known for its homely ambience and cordial hospitality.
After coming back from this memorable girl’s trip, I realised now with its natural spectacle, sandy beaches, and foggy hill stations, Kerala is truly God’s own country that I would love to visit time and again.
